More Chinese Are Seeking Medical Tourism

Are you ready to enter the Chinese medical tourism market?

With an increasing income growth among the Chinese population, it is noticeable that there is a strong demand for better healthcare services. Due to lack of the latest drugs, medical technology and skills, many Chinese patients are looking overseas for medical services to seek the best quality of healthcare.

Overseas medical treatment has become another "luxury good" for the Chinese to access. The number of Chinese seeking overseas medical services in 2011 to 2017 went from 100,000 to 500,000 which is a 400% increase in 7 years. The projected figure is set to continue and will surpass 800,000 in 2020.

In the past, medical tourists often traveled abroad to find less expensive treatment options without compromising quality. The primary purpose of medical tourism has changed. More and more people have begun to seek overseas medical services as an essential way to obtain high-quality medical services and it is gradually becoming a symbol of first-class medical and health services.

In addition, some Chinese patients find it too risky or less efficient to undertake medical treatment in their home country. Furthermore, specific medical services, medicine, surgery, or technology are only accessible in certain hospitals in other countries.
